Wi-Fi access point for TextScout

 

It is possible to use TextScout at home or at work with a faster and less expensive Wi-Fi network instead of the data plan of your cellular network provider. The Wi-Fi network has to be defined as an access point by using the Wi-Fi-assistant on Nokia mobile phones. Automatic selection of connection methods using SmartConnect

 

TextScout always uses the access point selected in the “connection settings” menu for data transfer. If you want to use, depending on the situation, different connection methods (e.g. Wi-Fi and GPRS/UMTS), the manual change of the connection settings can be time-consuming. However, it is possible to define an automatic connection order with the aid of an additional program called “SmartConnect”. The software automatically selects the best access point depending on the available data connections.

Functionality

SmartConnect allows you to create groups of access points which will be tried successively in order to establish a connection. Create a new group and select the option “stay connected” in the field “On better connection”. Add the requested access points, e.g. one or more Wi-Fi networks and the access point of the cellular network provider, and set the order of the access points using the option “Change priority”. SmartConnect automatically adds a group access point on your mobile for the created group. Select the group access point from the TextScout menu point “connection settings”.
Please note that under circumstances SmartConnect needs a moment to register a new Wi-Fi network when changing the location. Therefore it makes sense to restart TextScout for creating a new connection when entering the area of the Wi-Fi network.

SmartConnect is already preinstalled on some new Nokia mobile phones. You can also download the program free of charge from the Nokia Ovi Store for the nSeries models supported by TextScout:
